God Can Be Found in the Smallest Places
One day last week I was leaving work and when I went to push the lobby button on the elevator I noticed something on my thumb shine. When I glanced at it again I noticed that it was one singular piece of glitter. I have no idea how it got there, I didn’t do anything with glitter that day…nonetheless, I marveled how one small little piece of glitter was able to catch my eye.
And then I thought of God.
Isn’t it so like Him to give us shiny moments all day long and we just don’t stop to see them. I mean I could have glitter on my hands everyday, but how often do I ever see it. I particularly stopped to look at this tiny speck because it radiated so many wonderful colors. By the way the light reflected on it, I could actually see reds and blues and even some greens and yellows. All those colors on this tiny morsel!
And it made me smile. It made me stop for a moment. It made me take it in. It was enjoyable. And it was wonderful because it was unexpected – a surprise. And then I thought – isn’t that how God is too. He wants us to notice him. He wants us to stop for a moment (Be still and know that I am God); he wants us to enjoy him. And he’s there every minute for us – if we understand his true presence.
He doesn’t always have to bang a drum loudly, but often he does need to hit us over the head in order to get our attention. He mostly show us his love by tiny gestures like phone calls or emails from friends; a scripture that comforts your soul; a moment to stand and smell the roses or even an extra dollar you find in your pocket. It’s the little things that remind us of the big thing – Him – He chose us, He loves us, He’s there for us.
And He knows we’re humans for sadly, just as soon as the elevator door opened and I was freed from that day’s work, I forgot about that piece of glitter on my thumb. And when I went back to look at it, it was gone. Probably rubbed off as I looked for my keys. And then I was off to thinking about something else – that moment was gone – the world was back. But, God still remains, waving his arms furiously to get my attention, even though my attention is gone. I rubbed Him off and yet, He’s still there for me, even when I can’t see Him – in the large and small things.
Next time you spot a piece of glitter, I hope you remember this little illustration and stop for a moment and marvel at God’s love too.
so good to have ya write again!
love, SIS
From none to two! I was really struck by the stop and marvel at God’s love. That took me to 1 John 4: 7-21 where God is Love. I know that your glitter is not gone it’s just waiting to attach itself to you again, continue to bless people with your writings.
