A Simple Stub of a Toe

A Simple Stub Can Land You in Trouble

A Simple Stub Can Land You in Trouble

So sorry that I haven’t been posting like I should. It’s not that God hasn’t been talking to me and re-forming me during this time – it’s just that I got a bit side-tracked for awhile and now, I know that I need to get back on the blogging track.

My thought for this post has to do with the little subtleties of sin that appear harmless, but yet can do the most harm.   My pastor is looking at Proverbs at the moment and that’s what got me to thinking about this thought.  Take a look at verse 2 from Proverbs 21.

People may be right in their own eyes,
but the Lord examines their heart.

I don’t know about you…but I often think I know what’s right about everything, but more often than not, I really don’t.  It’s so easy to try and put your own spin on your life without consulting God or letting God direct your path.  See Verse 1 of the same Proverb.

The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord;  he guides it wherever he pleases.

Anyway, it’s the smallest of things that derail me and sends me running away from God and his path for my life.  Like something as simple as taking a break from Bible study this summer or Sunday School has me forgetting about reading my Bible or praying like I should.

Another area that can get you in trouble fast is your tongue.   Do you find yourself saying things you know are wrong?  I have a friend who’s a firefighter and he recently told me that although they know how to handle fires, it’s the infrequency of them though that could be their undoing and present the most risk.  This analogy is so spot on.  We know we shouldn’t purposely sin or stay late or linger where we shouldn’t.  But if an occasion arises…do we run?  If we find ourselves saying…what could it hurt…then it most likely could hurt you.  Like I said its the subtleties of  sin that can do us in.

Like grabbing that cookie you don’t need.  Or buying that lottery ticket you can’t afford.  Or playing that slot machine an extra hour.  Or how about this one…I’ll pray later.

My dear aunt stubbed her toe last week outside a restaurant. It was a simple stub, but the fall from it fractured her pelvis.  Her situation was a bold reminder to me about how something that we can do everyday holds the risk of a terrible fall.

For instance, by me ignoring God’s prompting to listen to him or his words to pray - that definitely affects me and my walk.

So, my advice is, keep an eye of where your feet are going.  Are you walking on a firm foundation?  I know mine has been a bit unsteady lately and I need to start to keep on my toes so sin doesn’t creep in.  Pray for yourself and others so you don’t have to experience a big fall.

Also, please pray for my aunt too.  She’s in pain and in for long rehab – all that from a simple stub of the toe.

God Bless.

I love to read your leadings and how the Lord allows you to learn through your hectic busy life. When I read this one instead of seeing the terrible fall I thought of the ending of the poem “footprints” when it says “it is then that I carried you” you have great insight and the subtleties of sin are infact the real danger.
